Every message you send carries four channels at once — fact, self-revelation, relationship, appeal. Decode utterances, find your dominant ear, and explore the sixteen mismatches below.

Friedemann Schulz von Thun's communication square says any utterance carries four layers simultaneously, and the listener can pick up on any of them. Crossed wires aren't usually about the words — they're about which side the speaker emphasized and which ear the listener was leading with.
